Effective Career Development

Career Development is one of those things that often gets a lot more talk than action.

It typically is a very highly ranked “want” on employee surveys.

As a manager, Career Development is tough to provide for a few reasons:

  • Everyone is different, and every employee has different capabilities and goals
  • When you are super-busy moving the business forward, it can be tough to spend time on
  • It’s hard to figure out what to do!

Career Development Fundamentals

My approach to career development is pretty simple. And it solves all these problems.

  • Career Development needs to be owned, defined and driven by the individual
  • The crux of career development is to gain learning and experience in the job you aspire to before you get there.
  • The role of the manager it to provide support and air-cover to help the employee get that experience (once the employee identifies it).

What employees need

What employees need to develop, in addition to getting the right experience, is a combination of:

  • Strategic and big-picture thinking
  • Self-confidence
  • Communication skills
  • Executive Presence
  • Time management and delegating skills
  • Ability to lead and act during uncertainty
  • Skills to build a capable motivated team
  • Stronger professional network & sponsorship

A great, practical program

I offer a low-hassle, but high-impact program that helps individuals take their development into their own hands.

This is my Membership Program which gives people access to:

  • A large Library of resources, webinars, worksheets and templates on a variety of topics on business leadership and personal effectiveness.
  • A former corporate GM and CEO (me) as a coach in monthly Coaching Hour conference calls.
  • Practical, real-world, ideas and advice they can implement now.

Over the past 4 years, companies have offered Azzarello Group Membership as either a primary career development benefit, or as a supporting program to their more formal HR initiatives.

Easy to implement!

It’s effective because people love it, and because it’s really easy to provide — You sign up your employees, and they use it at their own convenience. It takes no time on the part of the manager to implement!

Low Cost

I have set up this program to be a no-brainer in terms of cost, because I really do want to help people get better at what they do.

It is only $179 per indivdual for a whole year!

The cost is a rounding error on their salary, it’s fraction of the cost of attending a conference, and it gives the employee support for an entire year.

“I continue to invest in this program because I feel it is money well spent. My people get practical, no-nonsense, real-world advice from an experienced CEO, delivered in a manner that is easy to understand and consume. Every year when I renew the membership, I get emails from throughout my organization thanking me for supporting the program, and reinforcing the value people get from it – how it helps to make people more effective and more motivated.”

Paul Avenant, SVP & General Manager BMC Software

Convenient Access

People can access the material when it is convenient for them to do so. I am always honored when people tell me they listen to my webinars during their commute, or on their morning runs!

If you are looking for a way to provide effective and meaningful career development to your team (and score points for doing so!) this program is very easy to provide and very easy to use.

January Special for Managers:

A “Permanent Improvement”

People describe this program as creating “Permanent Improvements” in their career and life.

I think that is pretty great.

Members get ideas and tools that get them thinking differently about how to create success — and it changes they way they do something forever after. Or it opens a door for them which gets them into a role that changes the rest of their life.

I am so happy to be a part of that for people!

“Being a member has helped me clearly identify the value I provide to the business and clearly communicate that value to others.  These improved skills enabled me to take on more responsibility and land a new job that is the most rewarding of my career so far.

– Kathy Haselmaier,  HP WW Software Supply Chain

“I love Patty’s membership program because I get great coaching plus the ability to go back and listen to dozens of highly useful webinars. If you want to achieve more success in your career, you owe it to yourself  to become an Azzarello Group Member.”
